    Awesome build. I know nothing about welding myself but been thinking I really want to build my own "heavy" machinery, as I have a homestead property and buying or renting is just so expensive. One thing I'd love to build is a tracked backhoe excavator. I think it would be the most versatile machine that can do a bit of everything. The slew bearing definitely sounds like a challenging part to deal with so I think for my design I would just design it in a way that I just have to move the whole machine itself to move boom sideways. Either that or set it up like a backhoe where the boom can move sideways without the whole machine moving, but that's still a tricky mechanism to build I would imagine. That's a lot of force sitting on a small area.

    I have mid 90’s 40HP Johnson that I would like to either upgrade to tilt trim or just swap Out for a larger motor. Do you currently have anything available? Whats the best way to get ahold of you? Thanks!

    you could make your own slewing ring with steel casters. you kinda need a big diameter to resist the moment forces better. flanged caster wheels would be great and you can grease the crap out of the whole ring and channel to keep it quiet.

    Hi Brandon, that’s for your very informative video which is going to help me this week. I was wondering if you have conducted maintenance/recorded on the tilt system for the same model? When I raise the tilt the outboard slowly lowers back down. I’m assuming it needs the oil to be topped up or a new o ring?

    Many years ago, I joined the AOMC, and after a few meets found a brand new 1954 Mercury 40 hp. The guy had it in its original box and was not quite ready to part with it. Called him twice a year just to keep my foot in the door, but after 10 years I gave up. He claimed he wanted to sell it and get some vacation money, but I think he was just a hoarder.

    Brandon, I have snapped my 432095 OMC Spark Advance Link Assembly while during a rebuild of the top end and disassembly. I came to find out that this part is extremely difficult to find and still have yet to find it. Was wondering if you had any feedback or any alternative as to resolving this problem? Any insight would be appreciated, thank you.

    Hello! Brandon! Love your channel. Hoping you could point me in the right direction. I was recently gifted my grandfathers boat after it was used and Maintanance was neglected for many years. I had visible oil leaking between the upper and lower unit, which led me here. It’s a 1978 evinrude 70 model 70873c. I went over this video half a dozen times and then replaced the seals in the lower unit using sierra kit from marine engines. After about 10 hours of use I’m noticing clean greenish oil leaking from the same spot between the upper and lower unit. I know I need to pull it apart again. Any tips on what I should look for? Note: I could not remove the snap rings to get into the gears but the boat shift fine so I thought they would be ok. Note 2: I used permeatex #80062 high tack gasket sealant for most of the sealed parts and I used permatex #80060 super high tack gasket sealant on the exhaust boot and water pump o-ring. Could this be as simple as using the wrong sealants? Or should I be on the lookout for something else? Any tips or advice would be amazing!

    Another area on these and V engines is epoxied sensor hub on flywheel coming loose. Look for notch with dab of paint. If it’s off,it’s a good bet it’s spun.

    to make a perfect circle make the circle click back on arrow select tool "top left" and select the top two numbers that look close to the circle size "top middle right hand side only seen while on arrow select tool" and then your size " ie (6 mm) , make sure you select your unit of measure. put the size of choice in both x and y direction" to be sure its a round hole. Then use duplicate for as many holes as you need so that you only need to do that work flow a few times for each size hole. right click duplicate once you have the hole selected

    The cheap hydraulic mono spools in valves have no fine area (they are just machined round)....if you machine a small pocket on the shoulder, it gives you a small flow before you get full flow...takes the jerkyness away....also the boom up would normally have a little ball and spring in the feed ,which means nothing happens before the cylinder pressure is overcome (ie when you move down at the moment,gravity is driving it first,then hydraulics),but this would mean another purchase.....if it digs it works,well done.

    Brandon, love your videos. I have a 1987 88hp Evinrude that gives an overheat alarm at low idle. I have replaced the waterpump, T-stats, removed water jackets and cleaned them. I flushed the engine with Rydlyme and still happens. I want to take the heads off to check water flow around cylinders. I only run in fresh water for last 30 years, but original owner ran in salt. I am scared to try to get head bolts out for fear of breaking them. Any tips? socket wrench or impact? Thanks.

    • @bginvestor101
      @bginvestor101 3 дні тому

      I know your asking Brandon, but I wouldn't use impact , especially if you think they might be tight. Torque is not very high on them, use a socket head wrench and make sure they slowly turn. Than use the drill to pull out. My two cents. Take care.

    Don’t know if I will ever have an old two stroker again I’m almost 100% in saltwater but I’m very mechanically inclined and these old engines just bring back memories. I remember grandparents having these boats when we were kids and we learned to swim by getting thrown overboard in the brackish water and you figure it out.

    On the tilton trim where the piston slides up and down and you have the springs those rods are they all supposed to be the same because I have one that looks like it's wooden and it's flipped upside down I've never seen anything like it so I'm trying to figure out is that supposed to be there Is there supposed to be one odd rod with the five springs or six springs but this makes sense please respond quickly I'm in the process of re sealing mine right now in the video doesn't show you removing one of the rods this rod is not even a quarter inch line But it is golden and color. I noticed it sticking out the top away from the springs.

    interesting you talked about getting that resin out. IT CAN BE DONE lol... baking at the correct temp and it liquifies. The diode that dies in these and the older metal framed packs costs about two dollars. put a good one in and it will never die again. :-) Learned that with the 500 dollar packs from the early 70's.
